Catching Up!

First of all, happy Spring to everyone! I could not be more excited for warmer weather + sunshine after the winter we had! I’ve been hibernating the past few months and, like nature, I am re-emerging and ready to own the rest of 2019!

New book

While hibernating the last few months, I finished my 4th cookbook. It is now in the editing stage and I am feeling confident and excited! That’s right, book #4 is almost complete! I am so honoured to share it with everyone next year, and look forward to touring near and far once again showcasing my love and passion for vegan cuisine. I am truly so grateful. Had you told me 10 years ago that I would write not 1 but 4 books, I would be floored.

Mythology

The last few weeks I have been busy in the kitchen at Mythology working on some brand new and revamped menu items. All I can say is stay tuned for what is to come! I have been brain storming flavour combinations, testing what textures work best, what new ingredients and cooking methods I’d like to showcase and for the first time in months I am pumped to create new dishes. The team and I will be running weekly specials at Mythology for now, so make sure to come and sample what I have in store for you!

Mindfulness

Over the course of the last year I have taken up practicing mindfulness and mediation. Through my work with my amazing friend Kimberly Carrol, I have come to understand that most of what we perceive to be a problem, what sets us off or what we react to is actually just perceived that way in the brain, and is not actually true. It is absolutely fascinating; we humans are only animals and we are literally programmed to always look for what is bad, what puts us in danger and, in turn, what keep us safe. Through proper training of the mind, you can actually stop before you react and make the right decisions based on fact and not emotion. To me this is one of the most powerful forces we have as humans, as business people, as parents and as partners. To be able to stay present, to be able to control how we react to everyday life, and not let our brains take the driver seat!

Over the holidays I was scrolling on social media (as we all do) and I came across a post from Canadian hip hop legend Kardinal Offishal linking to his friend and colleague Director X. Being a lifelong hip hop fan, and knowing Director X, and his work, I was intrigued!

Together with the Toronto Center for Mindfulness studies, Director X launched Operation Prefrontal Cortex. The goal is to reach $12,000.00 to help bring a pilot mediation program across 3 schools in the GTA, and they are close! After the pilot is complete, the training can be done at a cost schools can afford, allowing it to be rolled out to schools across the GTA. How amazing would it be to be able to give our children the gift of mindfulness and mediation at such a young age?
